IIG Public Update #20

May 2009

What an exciting time to be in the IIG! Not only was our nursing class an unqualified success, but lightning will surely strike twice this Spring when we have our 3rd Annual Awards ceremony. See more below.

CALIFORNIA NURSES

On April 5th, the IIG’s nurse education department, CFI-Care taught its first course at the Steve Allen Theatre. Just a few days before the class was taught, the California Board of Registered Nurses let us know how pleased they were . . . by revoking our license. Nonetheless, the class was a success.

Currently, the IIG plans to publish our exposé of the CBRN in Skeptical Inquirer Magazine, and CFI-Care definitely plans to teach our course again in the future.

IIG AWARDS

Yes, Monday, May 18th is the 3rd Annual IIG Awards! We now have an exciting line-up of presenters, including Kathleen Madigan, Paul Provenza, Frank Conniff, and Dana Gould.

While we have yet to confirm all the recipients in attendance, we have just received word that Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman – THE MYTHBUSTERS – have pre-recorded an acceptance speech to be played at the ceremony. Tickets are still available here, and be sure to check out last years event, here.

VISION FROM FEELING

When last we left self-proclaimed psychic medical diagnostician Anita Ikonen, she was working on a study of her abilities with our North Carolina colleagues at FACT. Apparently this study was conducted on April 4th, and, at present, we have not been informed of the results.

COLORADO PSYCHIC READER

On February 1, 2009 Ronald G. emailed the IIG asking if we had ever had anyone prove to us any "real psyhic [sic] abilities". He then mentioned that he was a psychic reader who was interested in being tested, but he did not seem to be specifically applying for the $50,000 Challenge.

He has asked for the names and pictures of some people for him to do a test reading with. Six IIG members have agreed to have their images and names sent. We will be sending him an email with their pictures and names to get some readings and see how they match up.

CONNIE SONNE

Ms. Sonne originally contacted the IIG in June 2008. She claims to be a pendulum dowser, and sent us a proposed protocol with this dire addition: "I can demonstrate paranormal ability, and I can prove and convince you all. It’s very very urgent that I do it very soon for the world's sake. I can explain it all for you, but you first of all must see, that it's true."

Well, any test conducted by the IIG is moot now, as she has been accepted by the James Randi Educational Foundation for preliminary testing for their Million Dollar Paranormal Challenge. She will be tested live at the upcoming Amaz!ng Meeting 7 in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday, July 12, 2009. If she wins the million dollars, she will be more than welcome to try for our $50,000.

THAT'S ALL

Enjoy May, which both Allergy Awareness Month, and Flower Month. A conflict of interest if ever we’ve seen one (and we’ve seen plenty).
